Why Trainings Die in the Middle: The Critical Link in Learning Transfer

Most organizations don’t have a training problem; they have a translation problem.

  • Executives communicate vision... L&D builds or acquires programs...
  • Employees attend training....But managers determine whether learning becomes daily behavior.

Managers are the layer where strategy becomes priorities, culture becomes norms, feedback becomes growth, and where training either becomes habit or disappears.

In this interactive session, we’ll explore the critical role managers play in learning transfer. Participants will examine why even strong training initiatives can lose momentum after the session ends, and how L&D can better equip managers to reinforce, model, and translate learning into everyday team habits.

Using practical leadership tools, this session gives ATD professionals a simple framework for strengthening manager enablement, improving learning transfer, and building healthier team cultures.
