Accessibility: What's the Big Deal?
In this engaging and practical session, attendees will gain a clear understanding of what accessibility means and why it matters in today’s digital landscape. Dr. Shaffer will briefly highlight current federal regulations and upcoming deadlines, then shift focus to the broader, human-centered importance of accessibility for all users. Through a straightforward exploration of the “what,” “why,” and “how” of accessibility, attendees will leave better equipped to evaluate and enhance their own materials and digital environments. This session will empower attendees to create more inclusive experiences and better serve their digital learners, colleagues, and communities.
About our Speaker:
Dr. Kelley Shaffer serves as the Director of Distance and Digital Education at Texas A&M University. In this capacity, Dr. Shaffer leads initiatives in distance education compliance, supports the expansion of graduate distance education programs, and identifies resources and digital tools to enhance online learning. She is a seasoned presenter at numerous conferences on distance education and conducts workshops on best practices for online teaching. Additionally, Dr. Shaffer is an Executive Committee member of the Texas A&M University System Council for Academic Technology and Innovative Education (CATIE)
