This session will provide practical career planning for professionals looking to advance and how a three-year time frame is ideal. It focuses on maximizing your most valuable asset…YOU! Participants will discover what should be achieved in their role in Year One, Year Two and Year Three. Five Career Milestones to achieve in three years will be introduced. After Year Three, individuals should have the tools and techniques to “Move On Up”.
About our Speaker:
Dea is the Dual Career Program Manager in Faculty Affairs for Texas A&M University (TAMU). The San Antonio native holds a B.A. from Angelo State University (ASU) in Journalism with a Communications minor. She was the first female African American Sports Reporter for KLST-TV in San Angelo, TX. She was also a three-year starter on the ASU Rambelle Basketball Team. Dea has over 20 years of expertise in Professional and Leadership Development, Training, Instruction, Facilitation, and Professional Etiquette. She currently serves as the VP of Programs for the Brazos Valley Chapter Association for Talent Development (BV-ATD), is a member of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce, is the Public Relations Director for the TXSW First Jurisdiction and Public Relations Director for the Business and Professional Women’s Federation TXSW First Jurisdiction.
Dea most recently received the 2025 Carter-Larke Excellence in Leadership Legacy Award and the TAMU Tradition of Excellence Award for Staff (2024) in recognition of superior service. Her forte is Professional Etiquette, and she has presented for the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE) Gulf Coast, International Student & Scholar Services, the Alpha Tau Omega National Conference, TAMU Living Well, Blinn College, Young Women’s Christian Council, etc. She provides Interview Etiquette Training for the Brazos Valley Food Bank’s Together We Grow Program. Ms. Polk also serves as a professional mentor and credits her many accomplishments to a strong spiritual foundation, great parents, a supportive family, teachers, and coaches. Her ultimate mission is to serve others. Dea feels her biggest achievement and blessing is being mother to her daughter Khaliah Cheyenne Gaines.
