Our Topic: Pronouncing Unfamiliar Names: Tips from a Language Teacher
Saying someone's name correctly (or at least close!) is a show of respect. It can be hard when names are unfamiliar or foreign. This session will give you strategies for pronouncing names from different language groups that are represented at Texas A&M.
Our Speaker: Ginessa Payne, M.A., Instructional Consultant, English Language Proficiency Center for Teaching Excellence, Texas A&M University As an English Language Proficiency Consultant in the Center for Teaching Excellence, Ginessa Lawson Payne provides linguistic support to international professors, teaching assistants, and graduate students for whom English is a second language (ESL). In diagnostic interviews, group practice sessions, class observations, and private consultations, she identifies areas of strength and weakness and provides or recommends activities to improve fluency and accuracy, with the goal of comprehensibility.
